Many science writers confidently assert that humans use only ten percent of their brain capacity, implying a vast reservoir of untapped potential. Neuroimaging studies, however, show consistent activity across virtually all brain regions, with different areas engaged during different tasks. No large section of the brain remains chronically dormant. The ten-percent claim appears to have originated not from neuroscience but from misquoted self-help literature.
